Bloom

I had been tooling around with a bunch of song fragments for the past few months.  While it took awhile, I finally got one headed in a direction that I’m happy with.

Apology in G

I spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Frio River with my close friends.  The trip is quickly turning into a real tradition for us, and this time I decided to bring my guitar along for the ride.  I found myself playing this song a lot, and managed to finish things up when I got home.

Drag Rats

Here’s my latest work on the music side of things.  This one came out relatively easily as far as writing goes, but I really struggled with providing instrumentation for it.  After playing with a few ideas, the stripped down version is still the version I’ve liked the most.

Lucky Cigarette

Here’s a (semi) new track that I’ve been working on over the past few weeks.  I hope to extend the instrumental break in the middle with the help of some real instrumentalists. I wanted to leave it at a good, listenable, stopping point until then.

An Endless Verse for a Vanilla Blonde

Here’s a brand new song that I’ve been working on over the past few weeks.  I’ve passed it off to the exceptionally talented Giancarlo de la Cruz so he can work his engineering magic while I take a much needed break from it.  In the meantime, here’s where I’ve taken it thusfar.

Valentine’s Day

My small friend Walter recently pointed out that this blog is currently dominated by cooking.  I patiently explained to him that we, as human beings, generally eat three times a day, thus the prolific and lopsided nature of my cooking posts.

All that said, I definitely agree with the sentiment that the “many interests” aspect of this blog is currently a little on the one dimensional side.  To remedy this, I’ll be supplementing my new music with some old songs from my back catalog.  To start things off, here’s a song I wrote for Jessica quite a few years ago.  I guess you could say that it was the song that started it all.

The Fairweather Song

Update – 9/8/2013

Updated this track with a hot new bass line courtesy of my cousin, Giancarlo de la Cruz:

I recently bought an Ableton Push – a product that I hold in extremely high regard.  One of my big motivations for the purchase was to finally put all of the music I’ve been writing on wax.  Here’s the first song I’ve started recording with the new setup.

I still consider it a work in progress so don’t be surprised if this particular take gets replaced some time in the future.
